The 73-year-old Pure Life Society in Puchong, Selangor, which has served over 2,000 orphans, has turned to renewable energy.

It is currently home to 40 children from diverse backgrounds.OCBC Bank (Malaysia) Bhd (OCBC Bank) installed solar panels which cost RM131,500 at the home’s main wing comprising the administrative building and girls’ dormitory.

The 73-year-old Pure Life Society in Puchong, Selangor, which has served over 2,000 orphans, has turned to renewable energy.

The project, which marked the bank’s 90th anniversary, was a collaboration between the Puchong, Subang Jaya and Kota Damansara branches with Bolt Industries Sdn Bhd and Lions Club of Kuala Lumpur Parkcity, with the bank bearing the cost of the solar panels.

Pure Life Society will be looking to instal solar panels for the boys’ dormitory as well at a later date.

With the help of Bolt Industries, 61 pieces of Tier 1 solar modules were installed at the main building, complete with mounting structures, inverter and monitoring system to check the performance of the system.

The orphanage now stands to save RM1,703 monthly in electricity bills while reducing greenhouse gas emissions by 2,138kg every year for the next 25 years, the life span of the solar modules.

Pure Life Society president Datin Paduka Dr Mother A. Mangalam said, “The donation from OCBC Bank is timely, given our quest to be sustainable while serving the orphans better.”

OCBC Puchong branch senior manager Tan Yun Yun said the bank was keen to engage more with communities by venturing beyond providing its banking products and services.

“We are increasingly seeking to promote sustainability-linked initiatives which meet Environmental, Social and Governance standards.

“We are thankful to Bolt Industries and Lions Club of KL Parkcity for their partnership, and we hope the children at Pure Life Society will gain a healthier physical environment,” she said.

OCBC Bank staff from the three branches also contributed books to Pure Life Society’s library and shared heartfelt messages on personalised cards to encourage the orphans with their studies.
